Masks-Correct sizing

Masks - correct sizing

The LifeVac® kits come with a selection of various sized masks to suit different face shapes and sizes.

The size of the mask you use for each person is not determined by their age, but by the size/shape of their face. The person's age can guide you to a "starting point" for mask selection, then just follow the easy process below to confirm their correct size.

To save time in an emergency situation, we recommend that you check the correct mask size for your loved ones when you first receive your LifeVac® kit.

How to select the correct size...

It is important that the mask is fitted to the face with the mouth in the open position when using the LifeVac®. To ensure proper sizing the mask should be test fitted to the patient prior to operation of the device.

Note: Although the illustrations show masks with coloured plastic rings, these are not present on all masks. Any coloured plastic rings on your masks should be removed prior to using the device.

1. Firstly, choose a mask that looks approximately the right size, then check it by performing steps 2 and 3 (below)

2. Slide the nose (narrow) section of the mask seal around the bridge of the nose (see below)

3. Place the mask against the face, ensuring that the lower seal sits between the chin and lower lip (see below) of the person (with their mouth open).

*** Important*** If the mask does not properly match these two landmarks (bridge of nose, and between lower lip and chin) an alternate mask should be selected, and then repeat Steps 2 and 3.

Once the correctly sized mask has been selected, attach it firmly to the LifeVac® device.

To use the LifeVac®, the mask should be held firmly to the person's face, using one hand - the index finger and thumb go around the centre port of the mask in a "C" shaped grip (see below)

The Paediatric mask (P or 2) is the smallest mask we ship with any LifeVac® kit

You may have seen in some of the packaging of individual masks a reference to size 0 and 1 – these are unfortunately not compatible with the LifeVac® device. (The connection on the top of the mask is too small to fit the LifeVac® device.)
The paediatric (P or 2) mask in your kit is suitable for small children/toddlers and even infants/babies.

What if the Paediatric mask is too big for my child?

If you find that the paediatric mask (P, size 2) is too big for your child, a good seal can be achieved by using one of the larger masks, rotated so that the narrow end of the mask is over your child’s chin – the mask would then cover your child’s entire face (rather than just nose and mouth) to acheive an effective seal.
